Check The Fuses

Various fuse types are out there for your stereo system. You should find about these fuses before you begin work on your stereo. In fact, even if you had your stereo installed, you should learn about fuses and what problems they could cause if they malfunction. That is because a fuse box problem could lead to all sorts of malfunctions in your stereo. Just as in the car as a whole, you could spend tons of money fixing problems only to find out that some small fuse that costs a few pennies and five minutes of labor is the problem.

Find Out The Type

Know the fuse classification in your stereo. You can find out the length of the fuses, which will go a long way in telling you what you have in two ways. The easier way is to look in your manual. The manual should have information about your fuses as well as information regarding the type of fuse. Some newer models will have a ceramic fuse, and you should know before you replace anything if you have the ceramic version or if you have general electrical fuses. Putting the wrong type into your fuse block can cause significant problems. Also be sure that you are looking at your stereo’s fuse block. If you do not find problems there, consider the automotive fuse block, which also could cause problems with the stereo.

Cannon And Bussman Fuses

There are a number of types of fuses out there. Do you know the difference between a cannon fuse and a buss fuse? You should find out before you buy the wrong kind. Check for buss fuses in your manual. Also see if you will need busman fuses in your stereo system. A busman fuse may cost a bit more, but the price will not be prohibitive. You should be able to get a fuse for less than a dollar in most cases. If you get the right type of fuse and then spend a little time with the manual, then you will be able to replace them on your own. Because they can require you to remove some components, it may take a little work, but it should not be too bad. In most cases, a mechanic will charge you the full price for a minimum of one hour of labor, so you should try to do this one on your own if you can to save some big money for a small job.
